Three Stooges, The (2012)

2012 – Howard thought it would be a disaster.  He said he didn’t think he’d like it, but found himself laughing through the whole movie.  He talked about the making of this movie for years, as it was a rumor for a long time before it was finally made.  He was concerned, because there had been a Movie of the Week years ago about the lives of the real Stooges, and it was so depressing.  They didn’t make any money, some died poor and alcoholic and in nursing homes.  Each different news release would come out as to who would be cast to play the Stooges.  Lots of names were thrown out like Jim Carrey and Sean Penn, and Howard always said there was no way this movie could work.  They ended up casting no big names, and Howard really enjoyed it.  In 2014, Jim Carrey was in studio.  Howard asked him why he didn’t want to do the remake of the 3 Stooges.  He was up for the role of Curly.  He said he just didn’t feel it, but especially the thought of being punched and slapped by Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn, who are both really intense actors, didn’t sound like fun.  He thought the guys who ended up in the movie did a great job.

Tom Burgeron had been a real Three Stooges fan as a kid, and had interviewed Moe when he was 16.  He told Howard one time when he was in studio, and said that he had the tapes somewhere.  Howard asked him to bring them in and the tapes team could use them.  He did, and they had a 101 special on the Three Stooges.

When Steven Tyler was in studio, they were talking about how all the pressure’s on the lead singer in bands, and he was saying he’d be working and would walk in and see the guys on the couch watching the Three Stooges.

When Scott the Engineer comes in to “fix” something, he comes in slowly and dejectedly and Fred starts playing this theme song.

In 2013, after the Asiana plane crash and a San Francisco news channel reported prank names of the pilots, Some Ting Wong and Ho Lee Fuk,  Howard likened the pilots to the 3 Stooges.

Adam Carolla was in studio and said that he was watching the 3 Stooges and realized that Curly wouldn’t be considered fat anymore.  He said most women in America are bigger than that-he said just look at Disneyland employees.
