Blue Jasmine

2013 -Louis CK was in studio before the movie came out, in April 2013.  He told the story of being asked by Woody Allen to audition/read for the movie.  Howard couldn’t believe that Woody would have the nerve to ask him to audition, but Louis said that Woody had said this character was too unlikable, and wasn’t sure Louis could pull it off.  He auditioned and said he blew it.  He could tell he was bombing the auditon and he knew Woody knew it, too. Dice Clay got the part, and Louis was offered another role in the film. Movie comes out summer 2013.

Andrew Dice Clay was in studio in July 2013 right before the movie opened.  He said he was real nervous after he got the call that he was up for the part.  He knew he nailed it right away, and left the audition telling Woody he’d see him on the set without Woody saying he’d got the part.  He said Woody Allen is really good as a director.  He never tells the actors anything, and will listen to any suggestion.

Alec Baldwin was in studio to plug the movie.  He says it’s really good.  He thinks Cate Blanchett is one of the top 4 actresses today.  He loves working with Woody Allen.  Says most directors now aren’t that good, and even Woody’s worst movies are better than most of what’s being made today.  He said he questioned Dice’s being put into the movie, but he would never say that to Woody, but he turned out to be one of the best things about the movie.  He said they got along really well.

Blue Jasmine is the biggest opening of a Woody Allen film ever, and it was in very limited release.  Howard says Woody now wishes he would have put Dice in Annie Hall and that Gallagher is now talking to Martin Scorsese.

On August 3, 2013, Jon Hein tweeted:  @jonhein  Blue Jasmine – Good Woody flick. Cate Blanchett is excellent. Nice shots in SF. Actors are solid across the board (including Dice). B+

Howard loved ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ & ‘Blue Jasmine’. He said Beth drug him to see Saving Mr. Banks. He thought he’d hate it, but it was great.  Said Tom Hanks was so great, and Emma Thompson deserves an Oscar, but then said Cate Blanchette also deserved it for Blue Jasmine.  He said both these performances are great, and these woman can act their asses off.

In 2014, Howard talked about the Golden Globe awards and Blue Jasmine being such a great film, and that Woody Allen deserves his award, even though he’s a scum bag, he does have a great body of work.

Jonah Hill was in studio in 2014, and was talking about having the most fun sitting at the Wolf of Wall Street table at the Golden Globes,  Howard asked him what he thinks about Woody Allen refusing to go to the award shows, and Jonah said that we know Woody obviously makes some odd choices. He said Blue Jasmine was one of the best movies of the year.

Richard said he didn’t love Blue Jasmine, but did love Dice in it.  Howard said it was because Richard must have seen it sober, as Richard says everything’s fun when he’s drunk.

In March 2014, Joan Rivers was in studio.  She says Blue Jasmine is a total rip off of Streetcar Named Desire.  But Robin and Howard said it was still a great movie and she agreed, just said he should have given Tennessee Williams writing credit.
