Butler, The

2013 – Howard said Oprah’s movie, The Butler, was #1 at the box office.  He said it’s the best, most important movie ever, and he’s hoping to see it someday.  Oprah claims the movie made her boyfriend cry in front of her for the first time.  Howard said that’s not true, because he cries all the time after seeing her naked. Robin said he cries alone in the bathroom, so Oprah doesn’t see.  Howard says Oprah claims she’ll go anywhere to promote this movie, but she’s lying because she won’t come into his studio.   Howard’s disappointed that it did so well, as everything she does always succeeds.  Robin says that’s not true, because the OWN Network is kicking her butt.  Then Robin told the story of how Oprah always got authors to do her show when she had her book club.  She would have her staff call the author and say that the Times was going to be calling, so they’d pick up and it was Oprah, and not all the authors were thrilled.

Jen Graff fromStern Facebook Superfans!!! added more to the story:  The author Robin was talking about this morning was Wally Lamb who wrote two incredible books. And declined going on the Oprah show for her book club selection. Robin said he eventually appeared on the show. He never, ever made an appearance on her show. He did do 60 minutes to talk about his writing program in a Woman’s Prison.

Robin was talking about The Butler saying it’s not a fun story.  Oprah doesn’t make fun.  She said it’s great because all the white men now get to play presidents.  Howard said that Robin’s the only black person not in the movie.

George says he liked The Butler.  Said it was very historically accurate.  Robin said it was too depressing.

Howard said he saw The Butler last night.  He really liked it, as did Robin, though she thought Forest Whitaker’s makeup was distracting.  Howard said Oprah was really good.  It’s about a man coming up from the deep south and becoming a butler at the White House and working with all the different presidents. Robin Williams plays President Eisenhower.
