Fast Times at Ridgemont High

1982 -Howard, Robin, Fred and Artie love this movie.  Howard and Artie thought Phoebe Cates was one of the most beautiful girls in the movies, and loved the scene when she takes off her blouse.  Loved Sean Penn’s Spicoli, especially the scene when he has pizza delivered to his high school class, and Ray Walston is the teacher.  It amazes Howard that Sean Penn turned into this great actor when he didn’t think he’d do anything else but Spicoli for the rest of his career.  He thinks Phoebe Cates was one of the most beautiful women at that time, and when she goes topless, he thought she had the most perfect boobs.

Another caller asked Riley to talk like one of the Biavians, and then Riley broke into what Howard called Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Amy Heckerling’s German nanny called in and has made the “Best of” show with her complaint of Gilbert Gottfried making Holocaust jokes at the Heckerling’s dinner table.  The nanny’s parents had been in a Concentration Camp, and Gilbert asked her about their weight loss plan, among other things, and also made lewd comments about Amy’s 14 year old daughter.  She thought Gilbert was a horrible person.   She had had to pick him up to take him to Amy’s house because he was too cheap to pay for a cab.  She has a German accent, and Gilbert asked where she was from, and after she told him she was a German Jew and her parents had been in a Concentration Camp, he spent the rest of the night making horrible Holocaust jokes.  Howard said this was a really great director.  She has made Clueless and Fast Times and Ridgemont High.  When Gilbert said he met her when he did Look Who’s Talking, Too, Howard said that he’d thought she was a good director.  He didn’t realize she’d made this one.  The nanny said the movie was good except where Gilbert was in it.  She says she still has nightmares about this night, and it was 5 years ago.

Talking about how great Fast Times at Ridgemont High when Sean Penn says he’s gonna fly to Hawaii to catch some waves and then go catch some Stones.  Then they play an actual clip when he’s being interviewed and says “me and Mick are going to London and jam with the Stones.”  Howard says they need to do a sequel to see what Spicoli is doing now, but Sean Penn wanted to retire that character. He only does serious stuff now.
