Lone Survivor

2013 – Howard started the week of saying he and Beth got a private screening of his friend’s Peter Berg’s new movie Lone Survivor.  It’s about some Navy Seals in Afghanistan who run across some goatherders.  They let them go even though they know they have ties with the Taliban and then all the Seals ended up dead except one.  But they had a code to not interfere with civilians and couldn’t kill them.  Mark Wahlberg plays the survivor and he runs into this village where their code was that anyone that came into their village must be welcomed them into the village and then protected.  Howard said he highly recommend it, that it was a beautiful story.  He said the violence is so realistic, and that Hollywood can glam up the violence, but this is really realistic.  He said the best way to see a screening is to be friends with the director and see it in a private screening with comfortable seats and no people.  Howard says if there are no annoying people in the theater, he’ll be sure to give the movie a good review.  It comes out Jan 10.  He thinks it will be a smash.  They want to release it in limited release so it’s in time for Oscar nominations.
