Star Trek (TV Series)

1966 – 1969 –  Howard and the crew loved this series.  They had lots of trivia contests with questions from this show.  George Takei eventually became the Stern Show announcer, and his feud with William Shatner was discussed often.  Howard wonders if the thing on top of William Shatner’s head is a tribble.

George Takei said he had the chance to make Green Berets with John Wayne during the filming of the series.  That’s when they hired Walter Koenig to do his lines while he was gone.

George again told stories of the making of Star Trek, William Shatner taking the director off set to talk to him if he thought another cast member was getting set up for an on-screen shot.  Then when they resumed shooting, the scene would end up being only William’s facial expressions in response to the other cast members’ voices talking to him off camera.  Howard said he was great in that Twilight Zone episode, and Robin said it must be so frustrating to be a good actor and being forced to only say “Warp speed ahead, Captain.”  She said it was like Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad being forced to play a stupid dad in Malcolm in the Middle.

Howard said they had a skit with him playing Captain Pike from Star Trek.  Elephant Boy was excited to be in the skit, but then realized he was stuck in a box that can only speak by these lights on the box.  He started screaming to get out of the box.

Talking about Bobo’s penile procedure, Robin said they really need the medical advances like the Tricorder in Star Trek  for these diagnostic procedures.

Talking about Doug’s taking his daughter’s picture in Howard’s chair, Howard wondered who was allowed to take pictures in William Shatner’s Star Trek chair?
